Carly, Sam and Freddie- iCarly (2007-2012)
Who can forget when #Seddie and #Creddie fans were warring so hard online that even the show had to reference it (season 4 episodes 6 and 7 ‘iStart a fan war’).
Seddie is the classic pairing in the old-school fanfic world. Fanfic.net boasts over 4,000 fics starring the pair. Creddie on the other hand only has 699.
However, there’s been an undeniable Creddie resurgence following Carly x Freddie becoming canon in the iCarly reboot (2021-2023) leading to a significant amount of new stories going up on sites like Ao3 and Wattpad.
There’s a lot to say here. I’m rewatching iCarly right now post-frontal-lobe development and my thoughts have changed.
I used to think that Carly and Freddie were meant to be. I mean, after all Freddie was “in love” with Carly since day one and surely, eventually, Carly would see him differently and true love would prevail. But Carly just wasn’t feeling it. She had her own stuff going on, and Freddie was just her buddy.
I mean when you look at the facts, it was Sam who kissed him first. Sam and Freddie were each other’s first kiss. Sam spent a lot of her time straight up bullying him, but the boy just kept coming back. If you ask me, it looked like Freddie was exactly where he wanted to be. So, I flipped on this one team, #Seddie, but it’s definitely a close one.
P.S: I haven’t seen the spinoff yet, so Creddie gets no points from me there. Also, from what I heard Sam isn’t even in the show, so it’s not even a fair fight.
P.P.S: All these Creddie shippers are feeling so smug because they got what they wanted in the reboot, but I just wanna remind you that Seddie were making out in ‘Sam and Cat’ so…
Damon, Elena and Stefan- The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017)
The Stelena and Delena fandoms are both pretty big and have loyal fanbases, but how does this break down in fanfic numbers? Well, since we’re talking about the 2010s again, let’s see what was going on fanfic.net.
It’s not even close.
Delena has 2,069 fics and Stelena only has 493. So I fear what I’m about to say is going to be a very unpopular take.
It’s Stelena for me.
Does chemistry trump healthy habits? I vote NO.
Some of you Delena shippers make me feel crazy. It’s like Damon himself compelled you to forget what an asshole he is.
He was harassing Vicky and Caroline, indirectly causing Vicky’s death and using his vampire powers to compel Caroline for his own benefit. I mean, come on, he was straight up psychologically fucking with Elena all through season one just because because she looks like his ex, and he hates to see his brother in a happy relationship.
Character development this, character development that, yeah yeah a lot of things happened, the show ran for a long time, but I won’t forget what he did. The north remembers.
Edward, Jacob and Bella- The Twilight film saga (2008-2012)
I must admit when I saw the movies for the first time at 13 years old, I had tunnel vision for Jacob’s abs. I saw his hair flowing in the wind and his golden skin fighting that weird blue colour grading and I thought- yeah, that’s my guy.
That didn’t last though. As the movies came out, it became abundantly clear the Jacob x Bella ship was not setting sail, and when Jacob tried to kiss her BY FORCE in Eclipse, I was officially on the Jacob hate train.
It also felt hard to even imagine Bella choosing Jacob when she was soooo down bad for Edward. That depression montage when he left Forks was really something.
And the fanfic.net data agrees. Edward x Bella are number one with 63,885 stories and Jacob x Bella stories only reach a fraction of that with 11,072.
Anyways, love triangles suck 🙁
